HAMMOND, La. - The Stephen F. Ladyjack volleyball team avenged a loss earlier this season at the hands of Southeastern Louisiana Saturday when they defeated the Lady Lions, 3-1 (22-30, 30-21, 30-20, 34-32). The Ladyjacks have now won 9 of their last 10 matches and are now 15-12 overall and 11-5 in the Southland Conference.
After falling 30-22 in game one, the Ladyjacks bounced right back in game two with a 30-21 victory. SFA was led by junior Brittany Burton who recorded a double-double with 27 kills (.449 attack percentage) and 17 digs. Burton was one of five Ladyjacks to record double-figure kills against SLU as freshman Laura Cramer added 14 kills and a career-high 19 digs.
The Ladyjacks held the momentum coming out of the intermission as they rolled to a 30-20 win in game three. Sophomores Amelia Mayeaux and Lauren Stevens added 10 kills as SFA headed in to the fourth game needing only one more win for the victory.
The Ladyjacks hung tough in the fourth game behind Juliana Neves' team-high24 kills. But it wasn't enough as the Ladyjacks pulled out the victory in game four, 34-32. Junior Deborah Kirkham finished the match with 10 kills and 18 digs.
Freshman Stephanie Figgers recorded a team-high 20 digs while senior setter Melissa Bullion led SFA with 49 assists.
The Ladyjacks return to action Friday when they host Texas State. The match will begin at 7 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
