SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team put and end to its two-match losing skid Saturday, beating UTSA, 3-2 (30-25, 25-30, 27-30, 30-26, 15-11). The Ladyjacks are now 7-11 on the season and 3-4 in the Southland Conference.
The Ladyjacks had one of their better offensive matches of the season recording a .293 team attack percentage. Four Ladyjacks recorded attack percentages over .300 led by sophomore Amelia Mayeaux's .441. She finished the match with 17 kills and a team-high seven blocks.
The Ladyjacks took the first game, 30-25, as junior Brittany Burton recorded a career-high 27 kills (.353 attack percentage). It is the third time this season Burton has set a new career-high in kills. But the Ladyjacks couldn't hold the momentum as Texas-San Antonio stormed right back to take a 2-1 lead.
The Ladyjacks hung tough in game four and pulled out a close one, 30-26. Sophomore Lauren Stevens chimed in for 12 kills on 25 attempts (.440 attack percentage). SFA didn't let up in the fifth game, defeating the Roadrunners, 15-11, to take the match.
The Ladyjacks return to action Tuesday when they travel to Natchitoches, La., to take on Northwestern State. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m., from Prather Coliseum.
