NATCHITOCHES, La. - Five Ladyjacks recorded double-figure kills as SFA defeated Northwestern State, 3-2 (32-34, 30-25, 27-30, 30-27, 15-5), Tuesday night. The Ladyjacks are now 8-11 overall and 4-4 in the Southland Conference.
In what is becoming routine for the SFA volleyball team, the Ladyjacks forced a fifth game to decide the outcome of a match. The first game of the match was a close battle that Northwestern State score 34 points to earn the victory. The Lady Demons were led by Becky David's 22 kills and 12 digs. But the Ladyjacks didn't fold, fighting back to take game two, 30-25. SFA was led by junior Brittany Burton and sophomore Lauren Stevens who recorded a team-high 18 kills to lead SFA.
The Lady Demons came out of halftime with the momentum, taking game three, 30-27, but that would be as close as Northwestern State would get as SFA won the final two games of the match for the victory. Freshman Laura Cramer added 15 kills, while junior Deborah Kirkham carded 15 kills and 19 digs. Freshman Stephanie Figgers had another solid night for the Ladyjacks at libero recording a match-high 29 digs.
The Ladyjacks return to action Friday to take on Sam Houston State. The match will begin at 7 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Admission is free to students.
