THIBODAUX - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team defeated Nicholls State, 4-1, Friday night in Thibodaux. The Ladyjacks are now 8-2-1 overall and a perfect 4-0-0 in Southland Conference play.
The defenses took center stage early, as neither team was able to score a goal in the beginning stages of the first half. SFA broke the scoreless tie late in the first half when junior Christie Mestayer scored on an unassisted goal. SFA took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Ladyjacks took control of the game offensively in the second half as sophomore Kendra Cannon added to the lead when she scored her eighth goal of the season off a pass from freshman Alicia Reese.
Reese wasn't finished in the scoring column. She gave the Ladyjacks a three-goal lead when she netted a goal a few minutes later. Sophomore Sara Hernandez was credited with the assist. Junior Sophia Pantazis added a goal to give SFA a 4-0 lead. The Lady Colonels scored a goal late, but it didn't matter as the Ladyjacks cruised to their fourth consecutive victory.
The Ladyjacks return to action Sunday when they travel to Hammond, La., to take on Southeastern Louisiana. The game is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
