
SFA Track & Field Competes at Houston

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field teams continue the 2003 indoor season Saturday at the Houston Invitational. The field events will begin at 9 a.m., with the men and women's weight throw. The track events will get underway at noon with the women's 5,000-meter run. The meet will consist of a 14-team field, which includes Houston, Rice, Southern-Baton Rouge, Southern Mississippi, Southwest Texas, Texas (women only), Texas Christian, Texas Southern, Nevada-Las Vegas, New Orleans, Texas-Arlington, Texas-Pan American and Texas-San Antonio (men only). The meet will be held at the Bill Yeoman Field House.
Looking at the League Leaders Freshman Chance Edwards is third in the SLC with a time of 1:58.44 in the 800 meters. Freshman Bryan Williams (4:21.69) and junior Nathan Flores (4:22.19) are first and second respectively in the mile. Freshman Cody Clark (8:54.07) is third in the 3,000 meters. SFA has the league's top two 5,000-meter times. Senior Josh Hufstedler has a time of 15:53.08 and Matt Albertson recorded a 15:53.52. Junior DeVaughn Rettig is third in the long jump with his mark 22-3.75. Rettig also owns the league's top triple jump mark (46-7.50). On the women's side, senior Bratania Morris is third in the 200 meters (25.80) and the triple jump (37-10.75). Sophomore Jocelyn Stevens has recorded the second-fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles (8.90) and is second in the high jump (5-3.75). Senior Jessica Claiborne is second in the long jump (18-5.00) and tops in the triple jump (40-3.25). Sophomore Melody Tillman is third in the 400 meters (59.80). The Ladyjacks have also recorded the league's top time in the 4X400-meter relay (3:58.87). Junior Blake Gordon's throw of 43-11.75 is currently the conference top mark in the shot put. Newcomer Kasie Query and junior Jennifer Schreiner are tied for second (10-6.00) in the pole vault.
