
SFA Track & Field Opens at Houston

HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field teams kicked off the 2003 indoor season Saturday at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Meet. Junior DeVaughn Rettig led the way for the Lumberjacks with his two top-five finishes.
Rettig posted a third-place finish in the triple jump with his mark of 46-07.50. He followed that up with a jump of 22-3.75 in the long jump. His mark of 22-3.75 was good enough to place him fifth. Junior Nathan Flores recorded a fifth-place finish in the one-mile run, with his time of 4:22.19.
Junior Blake Gordon had a strong showing for the Ladyjacks with her fourth-place finish in the shot put. She recorded a mark of 43-11.75. Junior Jessica Claiborne recorded a mark of 40-3.25 to finish third in the triple jump. Sophomore Shametra Boykins recorded a distance of 39-6.00 to finish fifth in the triple jump. Sophomore Jocelyn Stevens recorded a mark of 5-3.75 in the high jump to also finish fifth.
The SFA track and field teams return to action Saturday at the Houston Invitational in Houston, Texas.
