
SFA Track and Field Opens in Houston

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field teams open up the 2003 indoor season Saturday at the Houston Indoor Classic. The meet will be held at the Bill Yeoman Field House on the Houston campus. The meet will consist of a 13-team field, including tournament-host Houston, Hampton, Louisiana Tech, Rice (women), Sam Houston State, Southern Methodist, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Southern and Texas-San Antonio. The meet is slated to get underway at 9 a.m., with the men and women's weight throw. The track events are scheduled to begin at noon with the women's 5,000-meter run.
All-Southland Conference: SFA returns 13 athletes from its 2002 squad that earned All-Southland Conference honors. Among the returnees are 2002 SLC Outdoor Track MVP and 2002 SLC Cross Country Athlete of the Year Nathan Flores and 2002 SLC Cross Country Female Athlete of the Year Ana Rodridguez. Flores returns from an outdoor season where he won three individual titles. Senior Destine Rawls returns for a senior season after winning the league individual title in the discus. Jessica Claiborne enters her final season as the defending indoor champion during the indoor season.
