Dedrick Sanders Helps Nail Win Over SE Louisiana, 58-55

HAMMOND, La. (AP) - Dedrick Sanders scored 13 points to lead Stephen F. Austin to a 58-55 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday night.
Stephen F. Austin (9-3) remained undefeated in the Southland Conference with its fifth league victory.
Antonio Burks scored 10 points for the Lumberjacks.
Southeastern (4-9, 2-4) got 13 points from Terry West and 12 from Amir Abdur-Rahim.
Stephen F. Austin held a 30-26 lead at halftime and quickly stretched the lead to 11 points at 37-26, at the 16:49 mark of the second half. The SFA lead hovered around the 8-10 point range for much of the second half before SLU trimmed the lead to only three points, 55-52 with 1:43 left in the game. G Marcus Clark connected for his only field goal of the game to extned the SFA lead back to five just seconds later and SFA was able to hang on down the stretch for the win.
The 'Jacks posted their fifth straight win to open SLC play in spite of shooting only a .579 free throw percentage for the game, the lowest of the year. The 'Jacks connected on only one of five free throws in the final minutes of the game when they had a chance to put away the Lions. The 5-0 SLC start is the best ever start by a Lumberjack team in conference play since joining the SLC.
SFA hosts Lamar Thursday night in the coliseum and follows that with a Saturday afternoon meeting with preseason favorite Sam Houston Saturday.
