Ladyjacks Shutout Lamar SFA volleyball team snaps three-match losing streak against Cardinals
NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team rebounded from its loss to McNeese State Friday night to hammer Lamar, 3-0, in the William R. Johnson Coliseum Saturday afternoon. The Ladyjacks improve to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in the Southland Conference with the win.
The Ladyjacks came out smoking in game one led by senior Angie Wood's (Houston, Texas) 14 kills on 29 attempts (.448 attack percentage). SFA took game one, 30-26. The Ladyjacks continued to roll through game two, posting a 30-24 win. SFA never allowed Lamar to get back in the match. LU led early in game three, but the Ladyjacks battled back to take the lead and put an end to the would-be rally.
Senior Jennifer Wilson (Friendswood, Texas) continued to play well for SFA, recording 10 kills, 12 digs and five blocks. Sophomore Brittany Burton (Livingston, Texas) had another solid outing coming back from her injury, recording 12 kills on only 20 attempts. Senior Sunni Williams (Houston, Texas) led all players with her 39 assists. She also added three kills and 10 digs.
"The team showed today that are capable of playing at a high level for the whole match," said SFA head coach Debbie Humphreys. "We have seen them play really well in spurts all season but we've been waiting for them to put it together for a whole match."
The Ladyjacks will step outside the Southland Conference for a match at Louisiana Tech on Tuesday. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m., from Ruston, La.
