Ladyjacks Fall to Northwestern State SFA falls to 1-1 in SLC play
NACOGDOCHES - In a complete reversal of fortune from Tuesday night's game against McNeese State, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team was on the wrong end of a 4-0 shutout at the hands of Northwestern State. The Ladyjacks are now 3-6-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the Southland Conference.
The Demons jumped out to an early one-goal lead when Bryndie Maag netted the game's first goal in the seventh minute. Sophomore goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki (Calgary, Alberta) held the score at 1-0 for the rest of the half. But the Demons opened up the second half on fire, scoring a goal in the 57th minute of the contest. Northwestern State was right back on the attack again only 39 seconds later when Maag scored her second goal of the game.
Michalezki finished the game with 11 saves in the loss.
"The girls did not play bad tonight," said SFA head coach Nicole Nelson. "We made four errors that unfortunately turned into four goals. They are correctable errors, but every night it is a different mistake that seems to haunt us."
The Ladyjacks return to action Sunday to take on Louisiana-Monroe. The match against the Indians is slated to begin at 2 p.m., from Homer Bryce Stadium. Admission is free to students.
