PLANO, Texas - Former Ladyjack track & field athlete Misty Ballard-Swan (Carlsbad, N.M.) was one of 20 Southland Conference athletes named scholar-athlete of the year and one of only three SLC athletes to receive the F.L. McDonald Scholarship.
The F.L. McDonald award was established in memory of Dr. F.L. McDonald, a former president of Lamar and 1999 Southland Hall of Fame inductee. The $1,000 scholarship is presented annually to the male and female athlete letterwinners with the highest grade point averages enrollment at SLC institutions.
Ballard-Swan was the 2002 SLC outdoor pole vault champion and a former All-American in the event. She also holds the school and conference records in the event.
Former Lumberjack track and field athlete Adam Keul (Tyler, Texas) was also one of 20 conference athletes to be named SLC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Keul is a four-time All-American in the pole vault and holds the SFA indoor and outdoor records.
