
SFA Track & Field Concludes Successful 2001-02 Season

NACOGDOCHES - *The 2001-02 was witness to one of the most successful cross country and track and field seasons in Stephen F. Austin history. The Lumberjack cross country team set the standard by winning the program's first Southland Conference title.
*Four Lumberjacks earned All-Southland Conference honors while sophomore Ana Rodriguez earned All-SLC honors for the Ladyjacks.
*SFA distance coach Alex Gibby was named Southland Conference Men's Coach of the Year.
*During the 2002 indoor track and field season the Ladyjacks tied or broke 13 SFA records.
*Eight Ladyjacks earned All-Southland Conference honors at the SLC Indoor meet.
*The Ladyjacks won a Southland Conference individual title during the indoor season.
*The 95.5 points scored by the Ladyjacks at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships are the most by a Ladyjack team in school history at the indoor meet.
*The Lumberjacks set three SFA records during the indoor season.
*Nine Lumberjacks earned All-Southland Conference honors.
*The Lumberjacks won three Southland Conference individual titles during the indoor season.
*Senior pole vaulter Adam Keul qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships where he earned his third All-American honor in the event.
*The 72 points scored by the Lumberjacks was the third-highest point total by an SFA men's team at the Southland Conference Indoor meet.
*The Ladyjacks set six school records during the 2002 outdoor season.
*Six Ladyjacks earned all-conference honors at the outdoor meet.
*The Ladyjacks won two Southland Conference individual titles during the outdoor season.
*The 93.50 points scored by the Ladyjacks at the SLC Outdoor Championships is the highest point total by a Ladyjack squad at the outdoor meet in school history. It is also the first time since SFA's inaugural season in the league that the Ladyjacks have scored in the 90s at the outdoor championships.
*The Lumberjacks broke four school records during the 2002 outdoor season.
*The Lumberjacks had eight All-SLC athletes.
*The Lumberjacks won five Southland Conference individual titles during the outdoor season.
*Sophomore Nathan Flores was the high-point point scorer at the SLC Outdoor meet with his 30-point effort. He was also selected as 2002 SLC Outdoor Track MVP by the league coaches.
*The 105 points scored by the Lumberjacks at the SLC Outdoor meet was the third-highest point total by a Lumberjack squad at the outdoor meet in school history.
*Both Keul and senior Misty Ballard-Swan qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the pole vault. Ballard-Swan finished 14th while Keul earned his second All-America honor of the 2002 season when he finished in a tie for fourth place.
*Keul and Ballard-Swan were also named 2002 Verizon Academic All-District first team.
*Keul was also named 2002 Verizon third-team Academic All-American.
*Ballard-Swan was named 2002 Verizon first-team Academic All-American.
*The Ladyjacks had two SLC Athlete of the Week Selections.
*The Lumberjacks had four SLC Athlete of the Week selections.
*Rodriguez was named Ladyjacks cross country MVP while Flores received the Lumberjacks MVP award. Senior Destine Rawls and junior Jessica Claiborne were named Ladyjack co-MVP for the track and field season. Potter was named the 2002 Lumberjacks' track and field MVP.
