NACOGDOCHES - Senior Destine Rawls (Houston, Texas) and junior Jessica Claiborne (Spring, Texas) were named 2002 Ladyjack track and field co-MVP and senior J.W. Potter (Big Sandy, Texas) earned the Lumberjack MVP honor announced head coach Phil Olson Tuesday.
Rawls won the Southland Conference Outdoor individual title in the discus with her throw of 157-3.00. She also earned All-SLC honors in the shot put during the indoor and outdoor seasons. Rawls set the SFA shot put record in the indoor (50-10.00) and outdoor (50-1.75) seasons.
Claiborne was the 2002 SLC Indoor individual championship in the triple jump with her school-record jump of 40-7.75. Claiborne's also set the school's long jump record at the league championships with her mark of 19-1.25. Claiborne earned outdoor all-conference honors and set a school record with her mark of 41-5.00 in the triple jump. She finished fifth in the long jump with her school record mark of 19-9.75 at the conference outdoor championships. She was also a member of the school-record setting 4X100-relay team.
Potter earned the Lumberjack MVP award by dominating the Southland Conference in the 800 meters. Potter set school records in the 800m during the indoor (1:52.65) and outdoor (1:49.55) seasons. Potter also won the Southland Conference 800m individual crown at both championship meets. He also participated on the school-record setting distance medley relay team.
