
SFA Finishes in Top Four at SLC Championships

ARLINGTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field teams concluded the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships Sunday recording five more individual championships. The Lumberjack men scored 105 points to finish third overall behind league champion Northwestern State (126 points). The Ladyjacks finished fourth with 93.50 points behind SLC champion Southwest Texas, who scored 169.75 points.
Sophomore Nathan Flores (Kingwood, Texas) set the tone for the Lumberjacks as he picked up his third individual title of the meet recording a time of 14:44.93 in the 5,000 meters. Flores was also the league champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 10,000-meters. Senior Adam Keul (Tyler, Texas) won the pole vault with his jump of 17-9.25. Classmate J.W. Potter (Big Sandy, Texas) gave the Lumberjacks their third individual title of the day with his 1:50.53 time in the 800 meters.
On the women's side, senior Misty Ballard-Swan (Carlsbad, N.M.) completed the SFA sweep of the pole vault with her mark of 12-5.50. Only 24 hours after recording a second-place finish in the shot put, senior Destine Rawls (Houston, Texas) returned to the track to win the SLC individual title in the discus throw. Rawls recorded a throw of 157-3.00 for the title. Junior Jessica Claiborne (Spring, Texas) earned all-conference honors with her jump of 41-5.00 in the triple jump. Freshman Jocelyn Stevens (Schertz, Texas) and junior Bonnie McHan (Abilene, Texas) also earned All-SLC honors with their second and third-place finishes, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles. Stevens recorded a time of 1:01.48. McHan crossed the finish line with a time of 1:01.79.
The NCAA Outdoor Championships will be Wednesday May 29 through Sunday June 2.
