AUSTIN, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field teams concluded competition at the Texas Relays Saturday with a strong performance.
The Lumberjacks were led by senior Adam Keul (Tyler, Texas) who vaulted a height of 18-2.50 to finish in a tie for first place. Despite his mark of 18-2.50, Keul finished second after a jump off. The men's distance medley relay team finished 10th with a time of 9:57.58. The time was only 3.98 seconds on the school record.
The Ladyjacks 4X200-meter relay team had a strong showing as well. The team of seniors Sonya McMillan (Killeen, Texas), Tan Morris (Ft. Worth, Texas), juniors Jessica Claiborne (Spring, Texas) and Mashay Utley (Houston, Texas) crossed the line with a time of 1:38.35. The time was good enough for a seventh-place finish.
"We took our best athletes to this meet," said SFA head coach Phil Olson. "I thought they performed very well. Some of our kids were pleased with their results and others were not. We competed against some of the top teams in nation and we did a solid job but our kids want to do better. Overall our coaching staff is pleased with the performances."
The SFA track and field teams return to action Saturday April 13th, at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, Texas.
