
Basketball Adds Another Recruit

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball coach Danny Kaspar announced today the signing of Antonio Burks to a letter of intent to play basketball and continue his education at SFA next fall. Burks played this past season at Moberly Area Community College in Moberly, Missouri and helped his team to a fifth place finish at the national tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Burks, a 6-5, 230 junior averaged just over 14 points per game and added 6.8 rebounds per game for coach Pat Smith at Moberly CC this past year. Burks shot 43 percent on three point attempts for the year and was selected to the All-Tournament Team at the national tournament. The Greyhounds went 30-7 for the 2001-02 season and were the Region 16 champs in the junior college ranks. He was a top 50 pre-season selection by Rick Ball of Rick Ball's Ball Star's recruiting service prior to the start of the 2001 season.
As a freshman, Burks played at Jacksonville College, helping his team to an 18-14 record. He was a teammate of current Lumberjack Danny Russell at Jacksonville College. Burks connected on 132 three pointers as a freshman at Jacksonville, shooting just over 46 percent for the season from beyond the arc.
The Texarkana, Arkansas product attended Arkansas High School and earned All-State honors and was also named team MVP. Burks was also selected to the Top 24 All-Star team in the state of Arkansas as a senior in high school.
Burks will enroll at SFA next fall.
