NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball coach Danny Kaspar announced today the signing of Dedrick Sanders, a 6-5 forward from Paris Junior College, to a letter of intent to play basketball and continue his education, at SFA next fall.
"We believe that Dedrick can come in play a great deal in his first year. We recruited him to fill the void created by the graduation of Ransom White. Dedrick should be able to step right in and help fill the role Ransom filled the last two years for us. He has been a big part of the Paris Junior College success the past two years and I really feel that his experience and attitude will help him make an easy, successful transition to our level of play," said Kaspar.
Sanders averaged 10.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game in starting every game this past season for coach Bill Foy at Paris Junior College. He also added 71 assists and 15 blocked shots on the season. The Fort Worth Polytechnic High School product was also third in the Texas Eastern Conference in free throw shooting percentage.
A teammate of the SFA's Taylor Moore in high school, Sanders has been an instrumental part of Paris Junior College posting a 48-21 record over the past two seasons. He will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Lumberjacks.
