
SFA Track & Field To Compete At Rice

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field teams will be in Houston, Texas, Friday at the Rice Invitational. The invitational is a two-day event that will run through Saturday. Rice will be hosting a six-team field which will include Harvard, Sam Houston State, SFA, Texas and Texas-San Antonio. The field events in the university division get underway at noon with the women's hammer throw. The track events will begin at 7:25 p.m., with the men's steeplechase.
Sophomore Nate Flores (Kingwood, Texas) has recorded the Southland Conference's top 5,000-meter time this season. Flores recorded a time of 14:42.99 at the Texas A&M Multis/Relays on Mar. 16th. Right behind Flores in the league standings is classmate Justin Meier (Lorena, Texas). Meier recorded a time of 15:02.95 in the 5,000m. A trio of Lumberjacks sit atop the league's decathlon standings led by sophomore Jonathan Roberson (Mart, Texas). Roberson has 6,628 points to lead the league and is closely followed by classmate Justin Connell (Troup, Texas) with 6,433 points. Senior Matt Seale (Anahuac, Texas) stands third with 6,007 points. For the Ladyjacks, senior Destine Rawls (Houston, Texas) is atop the league standings in the discus with her throw of 154-2.00 at the Baylor/Dr. Pepper Invitational.
SFA will return to action Wednesday at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. The meet will last all the way through to Saturday April 6th.
