LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Chauncey Bryant scored 12 points, shooting 3-for-4 from 3-point range, and had 7 assists to lead McNeese St. to a 62-37 victory over Stephen F. Austin Saturday.
Ben Perkins added 12 points for McNeese (19-8, 17-3 Southland Conference), which had jumped out to a 34-15 lead by halftime.
Percy Green and Jasen Gast each scored 10 for Stephen F. Austin (13-14, 10-10). While the loss meant Stephen F. Austin could finish in a four-way tie for the final two conference tournament spots, the Lumberjacks had already clinched a post season spot by virtue of head to head competition with the other teams trying to squeeze into the post season.
McNeese, which finished first in the league and gets a first-round bye, got 10 points Saturday from Raynell Brewer. The Cowboys shot 49 percent from the field, while Stephen F. Austin shot 39 percent. The 'Jacks also turned the ball over 26 times, compared to 16 turnovers by McNeese.
The 'Jacks simply could not handle the stifling McNeese State defensive pressure committing the turnovers. Guards Skip Jackson and Ben Hunt were both held scoreless in the game, the first time both have been shut out this year.
Stephen F. Austin held a 29-25 edge in rebounds.
