SFA Harriers Receive League Honors

PLANO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin cross country coach Alex Gibby was named Southland Conference men's and women's coach of the year announced the league office Monday. Junior Nathan Flores was named 2002 SLC men's athlete of the year, while classmate Ana Rodriguez was selected SLC women's athlete of the year by the league office.
Flores was the men's Southland Conference individual champion crossing the line with a time of 25:41.70. Rodriguez led the Ladyjacks to their fourth Southland Conference championship in school history, winning the SLC individual title with her time of 19:18.70.
For the second consecutive season, Alex Gibby was named Southland Conference men's coach of the year after leading the Lumberjacks to their second-straight league title. Gibby was also named the SLC women's coach of the year after guiding the Ladyjacks to their fourth Southland Conference title, and the school's first since 1990.
The SFA cross country teams return to action Saturday Nov. 16 when they compete in the NCAA South Central Regional. The race will be held in Waco, Texas.
