
SFA-Texas Game To Be Televised

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks open the basketball season this Saturday with the Longhorns of the University of Texas in a 7:00 p.m. tip. The game will be televised in several markets around the state as part of the Longhorn Sports Network.
Bill Land of Fox Sports will handle play-by-play duties with Jim Haller offering color commentary.
KFXK Channel 51, in Tyler will carry the game in the east Texas area. KFXK can be seen in Nacogdoches on cable channel 11, and in Lufkin on cable channel 10.
The game will also be seen in Houston on KNWS, Channel 51, in Dallas on KDFI, Channel 27, in Beaumont on KUIL, Channel 62 and in Corpus Christi on KTOV, Channel 7.
The Longhorns enter the game as the third ranked team in the nation according to the latest Associated Press rankings. Texas opened the season as the number five ranked team in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, the highest ranking ever for the program in either poll.
SFA meanwhile is coming off a 13-15 year in which the 'Jacks finished 10-10 in Southland Conference play qualifying for the SLC postseason tournament as the conference's number five seed. SFA has played two exhibition games so far in 2002, beating a travelling team from Ukraine, 67-57 last week. The 'Jacks closed out the exhibition season with a 99-62 spanking of Athletes First Tuesday night.
Following the game with Texas, SFA returns to Nacogdoches for its home opener Tuesday night with LeTourneau. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
