McNeese State Dominates SFA in 42-13 Win

The nation's second ranked I-AA football team showed why Saturday night before 8,437 fans at Homer Bryce Stadium as they handed the Lumberjacks a 42-13 defeat to drop SFA to 2-2 in the Southland Conference. SFA (5-4,2-2) missed two opportunities in the early going to jump out to an early lead then saw McNeese State begin to roll.
The Cowboys scored 18 second quarter points as they took control of the game. The Cowboys outgained SFA 273-102 yards of total offense in the first half of play and scored on John Marino field goals of 20,32 and 35 yards, as well as a nine-yard Jacob Prim touchdown run with 11:13 remaining in the quarter. The Cowboys added a safety against the 'Jacks when RB Eric Chapman slipped in his own end zone.
SFA scored on a 36-yard pass from Zeke Dixon to Anthonoy Dingle early inthe third quarter to cut the McNeese State lead to 25-7, but could not get any closer as the Cowboys defense shut down the 'Jacks. SFA added another Dixon to Dingle TD with just over four minutes to play for the game's final margin.
SFA takes the week off next week before taking the final road trip of 2002 to Southwest Texas on November 16.
