
SFA XC Competes at NCAA Regionals

WACO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's cross country teams concluded the 2002 season Saturday at the NCAA South Central Regional meet hosted by Baylor. The Lumberjacks scored 124 points to finish sixth. The Ladyjacks scored 324 points to finish 10th.
The Lumberjacks were led by Mike Thompson, who earned all-region honors with his 23rd place finish. Thompson crossed the line with a time of 31:29. 2002 defending SLC champion, Nathan Flores, was the second Lumberjack to cross the line with a time of 31:44. Flores was 28th overall. Teammate Justin Meier was only 12 seconds on Flores' pace, finishing 33rd overall. Julian Acuna was the fourth Lumberjack to finish the race with a time of 32:26 (46th). Amlesom Teklai closed out the scoring for SFA with his 57th-place finish. Teklai recorded a time of 32:48.
The Ladyjacks were led by Ana Rodriguez, who earned all-region honors with her time of 21:47. Her time was good enough for a 20th-place finish. Kathryn Scarborough was the second Ladyjack to cross the finish line. Scarborough's time of 23:40 was good enough to place 80th overall. Teammate Hollie Counts finished right behind Scarborough with a time of 23:42. Jessica Partin recorded a 93rd-place finish with a time of 24:14. Vicky Jannise closed out the scoring with her time of 24:20. Jannise's time was good enough for a 97th-place finish.
Arkansas and Southern Methodist received the region's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships on the men's side. In the women's race, Arkansas and Texas advanced to the NCAA Championships.
