NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team will be fighting for its playoff lives this weekend when SFA travels to Louisiana to take on Louisiana-Monroe and Northwestern State. The Ladyjacks will be in Monroe, La., Friday for a 7 p.m., match-up against ULM. SFA will be in Natchitoches, La., two nights later to play Northwestern State. The game against the Demons is slated to begin at 2 p.m. The Ladyjacks are 7-9-2 overall and 4-4-2 in the Southland Conference and are tied with Southwest Texas, in terms of points (14), for the fourth and final playoff spot.
A Turn-a-bout: The three Ladyjack goals scored against McNeese State Wednesday night would have been more than enough to insure a Ladyjack victory on pretty much any other night this season, but the Cowgirls posted five goals of their own for the win. The Ladyjacks scored just as many goals against McNeese State as they had in the previous four games. But the five goals surrendered by SFA were more than the Ladyjacks had surrendered in their last eight games combined. Despite the five goals, the Ladyjacks' defense is still on a roll. Over its last nine games, SFA has surrendered only nine goals (1.0 per game). The Ladyjacks have also recorded five shutouts during that span.
The Great Wall of Texas: Freshman goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki (Calgary, Alberta) is one of the best young goalkeepers in the nation. Michalezki has recorded 133 saves this season and ranks 10th in the country in saves per game. She has recorded five shutouts this season and has won the Southland Conference goalkeeper of the week award three times.
Up Next: The Southland Conference Championships are being hosted by Southeastern Louisiana. The tournament will begin Friday Nov. 8th and run through Sunday, Nov. 10th. All matches will be played at the SLU Soccer Complex in Hammond, La.
