LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team battled through tough field conditions but fell to McNeese State, 5-3, Wednesday afternoon. The Ladyjacks are now 7-9-2 overall and 4-4-2 in the Southland Conference.
In a change of pace from previous SFA games, the offenses took center stage. The Cowgirls got the early advantage when they scored the game's first goal at the 11:41 mark of the contest. SFA fought right back to tie the game at 1-1 when freshman Sara Hernandez (Tyler, Texas) netted a goal at the 16:51 mark. The Cowgirls reclaimed the lead less than three minutes later but SFA was up to the challenge when junior Lauren Allen (Keller, Texas) tied the game at the 21-minute mark. But McNeese State followed that by rattling off three consecutive goals to put the game away. Junior Michelle LaPointe (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) closed out the scoring for SFA with her goal at the 89:30 mark.
"The field conditions were horrible and that really took us out of our game," said SFA head coach Nicole Nelson. "McNeese State simply wanted the game more."
The Ladyjacks return to action Friday when they travel to Monroe, La., to take on ULM. The game against the Indians is slated to get underway at 7 p.m.
