JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Tony Tompkins ran for two touchdowns and Zeke Dixon threw for two more Saturday, leading Stephen F. Austin to a 36-28 victory over Jacksonville State.
Dixon's TD passes for Stephen F. Austin (5-3, 2-1 Southland Conference) came in the third and fourth quarters. Anthony Mayo threw for 128 yards for Jacksonville State (4-4, 1-3).
Less than three minutes into the fourth quarter, Dixon hit Anthony Dingle on a 32-yard touchdown pass to expand the Lumberjacks' lead to 36-20. Earlier, with 2:26 to go in the third quarter, Dixon connected with Paul Todd on a 3-yard pass to make it 29-20.
Tompkins' first touchdown came in the first quarter on a 61-yard run. He ran 39 yards with 5:26 left in the half for another touchdown.
The Lumberjacks scored first when Cliff Edwards ran five yards for a TD. Jacksonville State's first score came Maurice Mullins' 5-yard run with 10:37 to go in the second quarter.
Jacksonville State scored a final touchdown when Marcus Mitchell ran a yard for a touchdown with 7:07 to go to make the score 36-28.
The Lumberjacks led the entire game, including 23-10 at halftime. They had 512 total offensive yards to Jacksonville State's 237, including 243 on the ground to 105 for Jacksonville State.
