
'Jacks Lose Tough one, 57-56 To Lamar

The Lumberjacks fell to 7-6 on the year and 4-2 in Southland Conference play as they dropped a 57-56 decision to the Lamar Cardinals, in Nacogdoches, Thursday night. G Skip Jackson had given the Lumberjacks a one point lead, 56-55 with just under 20 seconds remaining only to have Lamar's Ron Austin hit a running jumper in the lane with two seconds on the clock for the gamewinner.
Jackson led all scorers in the game with 16 points, while Eddie Robinson led Lamar with 14 points. Lewis Arline, the SLC's leading rebounder pulled down 11 boards for the Cardinals as Lamar outrebounded the 'Jacks by a 34-32 count. F Stevin Ozier led the 'Jacks with 7 rebounds.
Lamar shot 47.8% from the field for the game while the Lumberjacks struggled, connecting on only 36.2% of their field goal attempts. The 'Jacks shot less than 28% from the field in the first half.
SFA trailed 27-21 at the half, but managed to take a lead at 48-47 with 7:56 remaining in the game. The teams traded baskets on several occasions with neither able to put away the other. The largest lead the remainder of the way was a three point Lamar lead at 55-52 with 1:28 to play. The 'Jacks return to the Coliseum Saturday afternoon as they play host to Sam Houston at 4:00 p.m.
