Ladyjack Volleyball Outlasts Louisiana Tech
NACOGDOCHES -- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team improved to 6-3 Monday night as it defeated Louisiana Tech, 3-2 (30-22, 30-32, 27-30, 30-19, 15-9), at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
SFA trailed the Lady Techsters two games to one before senior outside hitter Joci Shaw (Albuquerque, N.M.) turned in her best performance of the season with a game-high 19 kills and 15 digs. It is Shaw's second double-double of the season. Senior Kristy Rhodes (Cypress, Texas) was only one assist shy of a triple-double as she added 11 kills, 10 digs and nine assists. Senior setter Marissa Dorcheus (Houston, Texas) led the Ladyjacks with 52 assists.
"The match was not a pretty display of volleyball," said SFA head coach Debbie Humphreys. "We are glad to get the victory as well as another match in before the beginning of the conference schedule. We were flat to start the match and give (Louisiana) Tech some credit because they really stepped up their play in games two and three. But in game four we finally came around and took control of the match."
The Ladyjacks return to the court Friday to open Southland Conference play against Southwest Texas. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
