The SFA Ladyjack tennis team won their first match of the season against Lamar Sunday 5-2. After an 0 and 5 start to the season, and four other matches being rescheduled because of rain, the Ladyjacks clinched their first win.
Coach Bret Arrant, "It was a great win to open conference play. I was worried how the ladies would play. Rain had kept us off the courts for the past three days."
With the new format the ladies started with three matches of doubles. The team to win two out of the three matches received one point. Lamar defaulted line three and won both of the other two lines to take a 1-0 lead going into singles play.
The Ladyjacks came alive in the singles winning five out of the six. Arrant "They got with it in the singles and played well. I was proud of the way they played after the doubles."
SFA's next home match is March 10th at 10:00 am against the defending conference champs UTA.
