Michael Adams, a junior from Beckville, earned Southland Football League Defensive Player of the Week honors this week for his efforts in SFA's 23-21 win over Nicholls State. Adams recorded ten total tackles in the contest, including one sack and three tackles for losses.
Adams leads the Lumberjacks with 3.5 sacks on the season, and also leads the team with 13 tackles behind the line of scrimmage for 39 yards in losses.
Against Nicholls State Saturday, Adams also added a blocked punt to his defensive totals, blocking a Nicholls State punt with just over seven minutes remaining. The ball deflected off Adams' arm into the Nicholls State end zone where it went out-of-bounds for an SFA safety. The safety put the 'Jacks up 23-14, and provided SFA the eventual margin of victory as the Colonels moved back down the field with just over three minutes to play to score and cut the final margin to 23-21.
Adams, a 6-3, 235 pound junior was a Preseason All-Southland Football League First Team Selection.
