TEMPE, Ariz. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team dropped its 2001-02 regular-season opener Saturday to Pacific 10 opponent Arizona State, 92-61.
The Sun Devils were hard to stop offensively as they had five players record double-figure points, led by Chad Prewitt's 21 on 7-of-11 shooting. SFA tried to claw its way back into the game behind junior Ben Hunt's (Victoria, Australia) 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting (2-of-3 outside the three-point arc), but the Lumberjacks were hurt by fouls. Both Hunt and junior Edwin Tatum (Oklahoma City, Okla.) fouled out of the game. Tatum finished the game with four points, two rebounds and two assists in only 15 minutes of action.
Forward Ransom White led the Lumberjacks on the boards with nine rebounds, he also added seven points. White's nine boards led all rebounders in the game.
