Humphreys Gets Win No. 300 Ladyjack volleyball knocks off ULM
NACOGDOCHES -- Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball head coach Debbie Humphreys reached a milestone as the Ladyjacks beat Louisiana-Monroe, 3-1 (30-18, 27-30, 30-26, 30-20), Tuesday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The victory was Humphrey's 300th career win.
After winning game one, 30-18, the Ladyjacks faltered in game no. 2 losing by three, 30-27. SFA rebounded in game no. 3 behind the strong play of junior Angie Wood (Houston, Texas) who recorded 22 kills on .347 hitting. Senior Kristy Rhodes (Cypress, Texas) continues to be one of the top offensive threats in the Southland Conference with her 17 kills on 31 attemps (.516 attack percentage). Junior setter Sunni Williams (Houston, Texas) recorded 51 assists and 13 digs for her third career double-double.
"It was nice to pick up my 300th win," said Humphreys. "But the credit should go to the players that we have had go through the program over the years. They are the ones who go out on the court and get it done. But my focus and that of this team was not to win my 300th match but to win a conference championship. We did some good things tonight but there are still areas we need to improve upon. Now we have to focus on getting ready for Northwestern State."
Humphreys will have the opportunity to start working toward career victory no. 400 Friday night when the Ladyjacks take on Northwestern State. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Admission is free to students.
