Ladyjack Volleyball Beats Southeastern Louisiana SFA increases win streak to four
HAMMOND, La. -- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team improved its win streak to four straight with a 3-1 (30-19, 30-28, 27-30, 30-20) victory over Southeastern Louisiana Saturday afternoon. The Ladyjacks are now 15-6 overall and 9-3 in the Southland Conference.
SFA jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead against the Lady Lions behind some dominant offensive play as the Ladyjacks had four players record double-figure kills, led by junior Angie Wood's (Houston, Texas) 22 kills. Three Ladyjacks recorded double-doubles for SFA. Senior Kristy Rhodes (Cypress, Texas) chimed in with 19 kills and 11 digs, senior Marissa Dorcheus (Houston, Texas) recorded 64 assists and 14 digs while sophomore Kelly Gorychka (Austin, Texas) had 14 kills and a team-high 21 digs. Junior Jennifer Wilson (Friendswood, Texas) led SFA for a second-straight night with a .304 attack percentage.
Southeastern Louisiana cut into the Ladyjack lead by winning game three, 30-27, behind Mandy Withrow's 18 kills and 31 digs. But the Lady Lions fell short as SFA closed out the match in game four with a 30-20 victory.
"This was a good match," said SFA head coach Debbie Humphreys. "Games two and three were really close battles, one we we're able to win and the other Southeastern (Louisiana) took. I think our confidence level is now getting back to where it used to be as well as our consistency. We have to maintain our focus and continue to take care of our side of the court."
SFA returns to action Thursday against Southwest Texas. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
