
Football Falls To Sam Houston, 24-21

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) - Josh McCown threw two touchdown passes to Jonathon Cooper as Sam Houston State beat Stephen F. Austin 24-21 on Thursday night.
McCown, a transfer from Southern Methodist, connected with Cooper on scoring plays of 12 and 32 yards for the Bearkats (6-1, 3-0 Southland Conference).
McCown was 15-of-33 for 159 yards with two interceptions, and also ran for 98 yards on 15 attempts.
Wes Pate was 20-of-35 for 239 yards, one interception and two touchdowns for Stephen F. Austin (4-3, 2-1). He also had a 1-yard touchdown run. WR Anthony Dingle was on the receiving end of both of Pate's touchdown passes.
With the game tied at 7-7, Pate threw an interception inside the SFA 20-yard line that was returned for a touchown to put Sam Houston ahead 14-7. The Bearkats never relinquished the lead following the score.
The kicking game collapsed on the Lumberjacks as K Ryan Rossner missed from 45,37 and 52 yards. The 'Jacks were also guilty of another turnover inside the Sam Houston 20-yard line.
SFA does not return to action until November 3, when they play host to Nicholls State.
