NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) - Wes Pate's 8-yard touchdown pass to Courtne Garcia lifted Stephen F. Austin to a 44-37 overtime win over Jacksonville State on Saturday.
Pate threw a career-high five touchdowns in the game and went 24-of-38 for 271 yards and no interceptions for the Lumberjacks (4-2, 2-0 Southland).
Jacksonville State ( 4-1, 1-1) was led by Rondy Rogers, who ran for 167 yards on 32 carries and three touchdowns. He caught two more touchdown passes from Reggie Stancil, who was 12-of-21 for 211 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
Ralph Jenkins caught five passes for 134 yards for the Gamecocks.
Stephen F. Austin trailed 30-17 in the fourth quarter before scoring 13 unanswered points to send the game to overtime. The tying score came on Pate's 26-yard scoring pass to Will Bowers with 2:07 left.
The play capped a 10-play, 95-yard drive.
