Track And Field Competes At 2000 Conference Outdoor Meet

The Stephen F. Austin State University track and field team competed May 14-16 in the 2000 Southland Conference Championship Outdoor Meet in Natchitoches, Louisiana. The Lumberjacks finished the meet in third place, while the Ladyjacks finished the meet in fifth place.
After a grueling three-days of competition, 32 Stephen F. Austin student-athletes (19-Lumberjacks and 13 Ladyjacks) gave seasonal best performances in their events at the conference meet. In the women's 10,000M run, Risa Rutland, a freshman from Houston, Texas, clinched second place and set a new school record with a time of 36:42.34. Tyler, Texas native, Adam Keul, continued his march to the NCAA Outdoor Championship Meet (May 31-June 3/Durham, North Carolina) by pole vaulting 5.42M (17-09.25). This was a new school record and another provisional NCAA qualifying mark for Keul. The men's 4X400M relay set a new school record and finished the realy in second. Rodney Covington (Junior-Houston, Texas), Courtney Hale (Freshman-Longview, Texas), ReMone McIver (Junior-Houston, Texas) and Rick Davis (Senior-Houston, Texas) completed the 4X400M relay in 3:10.62. Courtney Hale also competed in the 400M dash and finished with a time of 46.18. This gave Hale a first place finish and a new school record. Paul Todd, a freshman jumper from Marshall, Texas clinched first place in the high jump with 2.18M (7-01.75). This was a seasonal best for Todd. Senior, Jennifer Hoppe (Pearland, Texas) won the heptathlon with 5,288 points. Ryan Kohrs, a senior distance runner from Wilson, Kansas, had stunning second place finishes in the 5,000 (15:15.45), 10,000 (31:14.92) and the 3,000 steeplechase (9:24.27).
