NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack head basketball coach Danny Kaspar announced today the recent signing of two prospective student-athletes to national letters of intent to play basketball and continue their educations at SFA next fall. Taylor Moore, a 6-8 post player from Fort Worth, and Rashad Wright, a 6-4 wing player from Blinn Junior College in Brenham, will join the `Jacks next fall.
Moore plays for Leo and Alfred Jones at Fort Worth Polytechnic High School, and was ranked as one of the top 20 high school players in the state following his sophomore year. Mike Kunstadt of the Texas Basketball Review currently ranks Moore as the 34th best player in the state, with a good chance to move back into the top twenty with a strong senior season this year. Kunstadt says of Moore's skills, "?Taylor has very good post skills, nice touch in the paint, is a good rebounder, a good shot blocker and runs the floor very well. Taylor is a very good sign for SFA, and can help Coach Kaspar rebuild SFA into a very good program."
"Taylor Moore is a fine big man prospect that can help our program immediately. He has good shooting and passing skills and comes from a very solid program. We are very excited about his talent and his potential as a Lumberjack," said Kaspar.
Moore is the son of Gwen Moore of Fort Worth.
Kaspar and his staff also signed a junior college player, 6-4 Rashad Wright, from Blinn Junior College. Wright attended Fort Bend Stephen F. Austin High School where he was a four time All-District performer. Wright was also named the Freshman of the Year at Ft. Bend SFA. He was also a two-time All-Area selection, and as a junior was named the All-Greater Houston Team. Under Troy Kite and Gary Nichols at Fort Bend SFA, Wright averaged 18 points and six rebounds a game. He signed out of high school with Blinn Junior College where he averaged 12.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 2.7 assists per game for coach Steve Spurlin. Wright was also a Dean's List student during his two year stay in Brenham.
"Rashad is a gifted athlete that can help us both offensively and defensively. We're missing that right now on our team. He can come in and give us immediate help next year. Rashad has been fortunate in that he has been under the guidance of great coaches throughout his career, and he has benefited from that," added Kaspar.
Wright is the son of Randy Wright and Betty Moore of Houston.
