Lexi Murphy enters her third year in the purple and white in 2025-26. Murphy brings plenty of basketball and coaching knowledge to the Ladyjack basketball program as she joins the SFA coaching staff after spending the 2020-21 season as an assistant coach at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).
Prior to her coaching career, Lexi Murphy played two seasons at Northeast Community College before transferring and playing two seasons with the Angelo State Rams Women’s basketball team. As a Junior, she appeared in 30 games and had five games where she scored 10+ points and had a season high 20 points against West Texas A&M. During her senior season, Murphy started in 19 games and averaged 8.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per, which saw her score double figures in 16 games that season and recorded a 13-point, 13-rebound double-double against Cameron (2/2/17).
Lexi Murphy attended UTEP upon graduating from Angelo State to obtain a Master of Education degree. During her time at UTEP, Murphy served as a graduate assistant with the UTEP women’s basketball program from 2017-19. Upon earning her master’s degree, Murphy stayed on the Miners coaching staff after graduating with her Masters, and then spent two seasons as the Director of Basketball Operations for the Miners from 2019-21.
Murphy would then leave to serve as an assistant coach at Texas A&M Commerce for one season. During her time at Texas A&M Commerce, Murphy helped lead the Lions to a 27-5 season, 12-3 record in the Lone Star Conference, and an impressive 12-2 record at home, during that season the Lions advanced to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Semifinals.
After one season with the Lions, Murphy would return to UTEP and served as an assistant coach for the Miners. During her time as an assistant coach at UTEP, she was a key piece in leading the Miners to a 20-12 record where they reacted the C-USA semifinals and earned a bid in the WNIT tournament.
Murphy graduated from Angelo State and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, before later obtaining a Master of Education degree from UTEP.
