- Assistant Coach (CB)
Terry Mills is in his third season on the SFA coaching staff, overseeing the Lumberjack cornerbacks.
After a sluggish start and decimated by injuries, Mills helped build the Lumberjack cornerbacks into one of the most improved units on the field. Led by redshirt freshman Tarrin Mitchell’s 27 tackles and two interceptions, SFA’s corners, the Lumberjacks also saw strong performances from senior Demundre Freeman and transfer Tre Rosser, looking to take even greater strides in 2016.
SFA’s defensive secondary was one of the most improved units in all of the Southland Conference in 2014, allowing 222 passing yards per game as opposed to 338 the season before. The corners were anchored by senior All-SLC selection Keavon Madison, who ranked among the national leaders in pass breakups.
Mills brings with him a wealth of knowledge of the Texas High School system. Mills most recently spent two years at Oak Ridge High School in Conroe, serving as defensive coordinator, following a two-year stint at Wylie High School coaching the Pirates’ secondary.
Mills spent three seasons at Northwestern State, working with the defensive backs, after a pair of high school positions at Carrollton Newman-Smith (2004-06) and Gainesville (2001-03). He began his coaching career at Texas A&M-Commerce, serving as a graduate assistant from 1998-99.
The Tyler native spent three seasons as a safety at Northwestern State before closing out his collegiate career at A&M-Commerce, earning his degree in criminal justice in 1998.
