Kail Kaiser is in his fifth year as SFA’s director of football operations. His primary responsibilities include team travel and serving as the Lumberjacks’ recruiting coordinator, while also overseeing player personnel, video operations and professional scouting. He manages and coordinates SFA’s annual pro day and serves as the liaison between professional scouts and players.
Following the 2017 season, Kaiser played a key role in helping senior defensive end John Franklin become the Lumberjacks’ 33rd NFL Draft pick and first since 2011. Franklin was chosen 135th overall in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams, becoming the 15th defensive end taken in the draft and SFA’s highest pick in 20 years.
As the program’s recruiting coordinator, Kaiser oversaw the efforts of the 2018 class, which was ranked No. 29 in the nation and third in the Southland Conference by Hero Sports FCS.
During Kaiser's first three seasons in Texas’ oldest town, he has been a key member of SFA's recruiting efforts, a process in which the Lumberjacks have ranked among the nation's top 20 according to Hero Sports FCS, ranking 14th in 2016 and 18th in 2017. Kaiser was also a member of the staff that helped lead SFA to an 8-5 record in 2014 and an appearance in the FCS playoffs.
The first full-time director of football operations at SFA, Kaiser came to Nacogdoches after spending two seasons as a recruiting assistant at Florida State where he was a part of the Seminoles’ 2014 BCS National Championship team.
Kaiser assisted with recruiting for FSU’s back-to-back ACC championship teams in 2012 and 2013 as the Seminoles boasted a pair of top-10 recruiting classes. As part of the recruiting efforts at FSU, 11 players Kaiser assisted in bringing to Tallahassee were drafted in the last six NFL Drafts, including a pair of top-five Draft picks in Jameis Winston (first overall in 2015) and Jalen Ramsey (fifth overall in 2016). After Kaiser’s second season with the program in 2013, the 'Noles had an ACC record 11 players drafted overall. Altogether, 20 players from the 2014 national championship team were drafted in the NFL. FSU had 29 NFL Draft selections from 2013-2015, a three-year record, and from 2013-2016 the 'Noles had four-consecutive first-round selections, all of whom had played during Kaiser’s tenure at FSU. When Kaiser left FSU, the 'Noles had a streak of 30 consecutive years of having a player selected in the NFL Draft.
During his time in Tallahassee, Florida, Kaiser worked as a video coordinator for the FSU women’s basketball team during the 2008-09 season, which culminated in an Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA tournament.
He spent one season as a video intern for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2010-11, following a four-year stint in the U.S. Air Force. Kaiser served as a military policeman, serving two combat tours in Kuwait and Korea.
Kaiser earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management from Florida State in 2011 before attaining his master’s degree in 2012. A native of Gulfport, Florida, Kaiser married the former Elaina Schultheis of Orlando, Florida, in the summer of 2014. The couple welcomed their son, Kash, in January of 2016, followed by their daughter, Karsen, in 2017.
