Jake Brown is in his first season at Stephen F. Austin, joining the staff in January 2017. Brown will assume responsibility of the Lumberjack running backs.
Brown comes to Nacogdoches after spending three seasons at TCU, serving as a graduate assistant from 2014-15, working primarily with the Horned Frogs’ inside wide receivers. During those two years, TCU posted a record of 23-3, captured the 2014 Big 12 championship, captured victories in both the 2014 Peach Bowl and the 2016 Alamo Bowl and notched a pair of top-10 final rankings.
In 2016, Brown was promoted to TCU’s director of high school relations while still working with Horned Frogs’ wide receivers. During his time in Fort Worth, Brown helped coach seven players who made NFL rosters following their collegiate careers as TCU ranked in the top-five in the nation in total offense.
Before joining the staff at TCU, Brown coached at the high school level, serving as the defensive line coach at Arlington Martin in 2013, the wide receivers coach at Lake Travis in 2012 and safeties and special teams coordinator at Midlothian from 2010-11. Brown coached a number of Division I players during that span, including Texas A&M’s Myles Garrett (Arlington Martin) and Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield (Lake Travis).
A native of Ennis, Brown graduated with his bachelor’s degree from North Texas in 2009. He married his wife, Brittany, in 2013.
