Sydney Williams Earns SLC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

The junior defender contributed to Ladyjacks’ shutout against Texas Southern and scored the opening goal in comeback win over Jackson State

FRISCO, Texas - The Southland Conference announced its weekly women's soccer awards Tuesday morning, naming SFA junior defender Sydney Williams the SLC Defensive Player of the Week.

Sydney Williams logged 180 minutes across matches against Texas Southern and Jackson State. She helped anchor the Ladyjacks' first shutout of the season in Thursday's 3–0 win over the Tigers, then scored the opening goal Sunday against Jackson State while leading SFA's backline to a second-half shutout in the Ladyjacks comeback victory over the Tigers.

Up next, the Ladyjacks enter Southland play this week as they play host to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday, September 17, at The Chopping Block in Nacogdoches. The Jacks and Islanders will clash for the 13th time in the series, with the last meeting coming in the first round of the 2025 Southland Conference Tournament, when SFA advanced over TAMU-CC in a penalty-kick shootout.
