Trio treks to Fayetteville for final efforts before SLC Championship
NACOGDOCHES, Ark. - Three Stephen F. Austin male student-athletes are in action on Friday night in Fayetteville at the Arkansas Twilight. Keyshawn Garcia (800m), Kason Reed (Shot Put) and Riley Elliott (1500m) compete for the final time before the upcoming Southland Conference Championships next week in Nacogdoches. Garcia's 800m event fires off at 6:40 p.m. This season, the first-year Lumberjack has posted the fastest 800m time for the Jacks which currently stands as the second-fastest all-time in program history and is the second-fastest in the SLC this season. He was clocked at a personal best time of 1:48.71 which is just 0:00.29 seconds back of matching the current program best and only 0:00.05 of the current league leader. It is 0:00.20 back of entering the West Region's top 50.
Reed is in action at 7:30 p.m. He is currently tied atop the Southland Conference in the shot put with a mark of 17.79m (58' 4.5"). That mark is currently the fourth longest toss in the event in program history. Additionally, Reed enters Friday with a top 50 mark in the West Region.
Elliott currently holds the second-fastest 1500m of any Lumberjack in program history at 3:43.24. That time paces the Southland Conference this spring and is just under two seconds from the West Region top 50. Elliott is in action at 8 p.m. on Friday night.
