Both sides strand 11 as Huskies claim 4-3 win in Game 2 to even series
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin and Houston Christian will decide this weekend's Southland Conference series winner in a Sunday rubber match after the Huskies picked up a 4-3 victory on Saturday night from Pilgrim's Park. HCU grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the second, SFA responded with a three-run third, but the Huskies tied the game with two runs in the next half frame and retook the lead for good with a run in the sixth. SFA moves to 14-14 with a 6-5 mark in SLC play. HCU improves to 12-15 with a 5-6 mark in league play.
Gabe LeBlanc went 4.0 innings facing one over the minimum and allowed three hits with two of the three HCU runs that crossed being earned. Seanan Farney (2.0), Reid Bowyer (2.1), Kadin Munson (0.1) and Nate Vidlak (0.1) combined on the final six innings. The Jacks fanned a collective eight batters with Farney striking out three.
Both teams stranded 11 base runners, and the Jacks left seven on over the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, which included a bases loaded opportunity in the eighth, after the Huskies took the lead in the sixth.
Jhett Creel, Julian Swift and Ethan Adkisson recorded SFA's three hits, while six players drew walks for the Jacks. SFA's third inning saw a well-executed squeeze play by Cooper Schneider who plated Rodric Black from third on a sac bunt. Swift then singled in Adkisson and Schneider to cap the three-run frame.
