Lumberjacks Meet UTSA Before Opening SLC Slate

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team squares off against UTSA, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and UTRGV over four days beginning Friday, February 27, in San Antonio.

UTSA ROADRUNNERS

SFA and UTSA are set for an 11:00 a.m. first-serve on Friday, February 2026 at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Lumberjacks are behind in the all-time series record with a 6-8 record.
The 'Jacks currently post a 2-4 road record against UTSA.
Of the last 10 matchups, SFA leads with a 6-4 record.
The last time SFA crossed paths with UTSA, the Roadrunners took a 5-2 victory in February of 2019.
UTSA sports a 4-5 record in the 2026 campaign, with their most recent match being a 4-0 loss to USF.
UTSA averages a 19.98 ITA rating.

TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI

The 'Jacks and Islanders will meet on Saturday, February 28, for a 12:00 p.m. first serve.
TAMU-CC currently sits at third in the SLC with a 10-1 overall record.
The Islanders' last match was against #55 ITA-ranked Rice, where the Owls defeated the Islanders 4-0. Before this match, TAMU-CC found themselves riding a 10-game win streak.
The Islanders have an ITA average of 18.91.
The last time the Islanders and Lumberjacks faced off, SFA dethroned #1 TAMU-CC in the 2025 SLC Tournament to become the new SLC Champions in a 4-0 sweep.
TAMU-CC holds a strong series lead, with an 11-5 record, with a perfect 5-0 home record.
Adriana Jiminez Casado and Kseniya Ramanouskaya each remain undefeated in singles on the season, with a 10-0 record, with the team overall sitting at 53-4.
The pair of Kseniya Ramanouskaya and Yana Mykytyn leads in doubles with a 9-0 record and an overall 25-3 record.

UTRGV VAQUEROS

The Lumberjacks and Vaqueros face off on Monday, March 2, in Edinburg for an 11:00 a.m. match.
The Vaqueros are currently 1-8 on the season, with UTRGV grabbing their first win in their last match, which was against Utah State in a 7-0 final.
In singles, UTRGV sits just below .500 as Kristal Dule has collected the most wins with nine this season.
UTRGV continues to make a strong showing in doubles matches with a 29-15 overall record.
Rhea Makesar and Mariia Bakhtina lead in doubles matches with an 11-3 record.
The Vaqueros have an ITA average of 20.90.

DEFENDING SLC CHAMPIONS

The Lumberjacks' season to defend their Southland crown starts now with the opening play of SLC matches.
Sonja Rooth was named the SLC Women's Tennis Player of the Week this past week.
Rooth looks to continue her dominance with her current 4-0 singles match record and aims to add three more wins this weekend.
The 'Jacks will conclude their non-conference slate, facing off with UTSA.
SFA currently sports an ITA average of 19.26.

When asked about the Lumberjacks opening up SLC play for the 2026 season, Head Coach Drew Lambert said, "Anytime you start conference matches, the practice just buzzes more and more compared to lead-up weeks. There's just so much more at stake, and the players really focus in so that we can get the best out of practices and, in turn, more out of each other." Lambert also said, "The team has shown this week that they are 100% focused on the matchups this weekend- we have two great opponents that we are ready to battle with and play some great tennis against. Not only are we focused on playing great, but also helping one another fight through any adversity that comes our way on court..."

With the Southland Champions now geared up to defend their title, Drew Lambert stated, "As the defending champions, honestly, we have not focused on what the team did last year. It's a new year and a new opportunity for us to test our mettle. The student-athletes have been looking at current lineups and are really excited to play. We are ready to tackle what is in front of us!"
