THIBODAUX, La.- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team headed to the boot of Louisiana for a matchup against the Nicholls Colonels.
Both offenses struggled to get going early, but after SFA made the first bucket of the game Nicholls responded with back-to-back scores to take a 5-2 lead with 7:51 left in the first quarter. A minute and a half later, the Ladyjacks began a 11-0 run that would be capped off by a jumper from Key Roseby put SFA up 13-8. The first quarter ended on an 11-4 spurt from Nicholls as they went into the first quarter break with a slim 19-17 lead.
The Colonel offense scored the first five points of the second quarter to extend their lead to seven. However, the Ladyjacks responded with an incredible 12-0 run capped off with back-to-back three pointers from Kaylinn Kemp and Myka Perry, 29-24. With 1:59 left on the clock Roseby continued to shine as she drained back-to-back threes to extend the SFA lead to nine, 38-31. Nicholls made a layup with 15 seconds to go, but SFA went into the locker room with a 42-33 lead.
SFA and Nicholls traded blows most of the third quarter until the Ladyjacks went on a 7-0 run that included five made free throws to take a 13-point lead, 59-46 with 2:20 left. After Cha Gardner made two free throws, Lydia Cajuste drains a corner three as SFA held a 64-48 lead with 1:11 left in the third. The Ladyjacks went into the fourth with a 66-50 lead.
