‘Jacks Improve to 8-0 at Home with Wire-to-Wire Win over HCU

SFA puts four players in double-figure scoring to improve to 6-1 in SLC play
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Back home for the first time since December 21, Stephen F. Austin men's basketball took advantage and improved their record inside William R. Johnson Coliseum to 8-0 with an 85-67 wire-to-wire win over Houston Christian in Southland Conference action on Saturday night. The victory moves SFA's overall record to 13-3 with a 6-1 mark in league play.
The 'Jacks used a pair of offensive rebounds on the first possession to extend the effort that ended with Lateef Patrick hammering a left wing three ball for the game's first points. That started a 12-0 SFA run to begin the action with a deep Patrick trifecta bookending a run that prompted a pair of HCU timeouts prior to the under-16 media.
The visitors responded with a 9-0 run in nearly three minutes of play to pull within 19-14 of the SFA advantage down through the under-12 media timeout.
Two free throws from Gediminas Alisas preceded a steal by the former which then led to the second of two first-half triple tries from Kam Burton for an eight-point SFA lead at the 7:06 mark. The 'Jacks employed a highly active defensive effort over the opening twenty minutes which included a poke away and helper by Ahamed Mohammed to Chrishawn Christmas who finished at the rim just after the under-8 stoppage.
Just prior to the final media timeout of the first half, Alisas engineered a personal 6-0 run started by a spin to the cup off a helper from Christmas. Twenty seconds later, a steal by Patrick led to the former delivering a moving jump pass to Alisas down low for an easy finish. Alisas converted an inside bucket on the 'Jacks' next trip down the floor as the lead grew to its largest of the first half at 15 points.
Marcus Scurry connected on a triple try for the 'Jacks' first points of the second half and he added an inside drive to the basket in-between a four-pack of three-point makes from the trigger of Narit Chotikavanic.
A diminishing shot clock slam by Jerald Colonel, a Burton three-ball and an acrobatic finish by Keon Thompson at the rim did more than enough in aiding the 'Jacks' second-half effort.
