Lumberjacks Wrap Up Season With Shootout Win Over UIW

UIW started the scoring with a solo home run in the top of the first, but the 'Jacks responded quickly. Cermodrick Bland led off the game with a double and then stole third, and Cooper Schneider drove him in with a sacrifice fly to center field, tying the game at 1. UIW hit another solo home run in the top of the second, but the Lumberjacks once again answered. Mark Henning started the top of the second with a double, and Kevin Duran followed with a single up the middle, evening the score at 2.
UIW scored two runs in both the third and fourth innings to take a 6-2 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, SFA cut into the lead, as Ethan Adkisson hit a 2-RBI single to cut the Cardinals lead to 6-4. The following inning, Bland hit his second double of the game. After Cermodrick stole third for the second time in the contest and Josh Ibe worked a walk, Julian Swift hit a sacrifice fly to score Bland and make the score 6-5.
The Cardinals continued putting up runs, scoring two in the sixth and one more in the seventh to extend their lead to 9-5. In the bottom of the seventh, however, the Lumberjacks fired right back. After a Cooper Schneider single was followed by a walk by Josh Ibe and a hit by pitch by Julian Swift, the Lumberjacks were set up for a big inning with the bases loaded and no outs. Mark Henning hit an RBI groundout, bringing in Schneider. Ethan Adkisson came through later in the inning with two outs, hitting an RBI single. Austin Cadroy followed with a bases-loaded walk, and Bland continued his big day with a two-RBI single. After seven, the Lumberjacks led 11-9.
After a scoreless top of the eighth, Ethan Adkisson hit another single, this time driving in two runs to pad the 'Jacks lead. Heading into the ninth, SFA held a commanding 13-9 lead. The ninth inning started shaky for the Lumberjacks, as UIW hit a solo home run and a two-run home run to make the score 13-12, but hometown kid Reid Boyett came in and recorded his third save of the year. The Lumberjacks would conclude their season with a thrilling 13-12 win over UIW.
