NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks Baseball Team (9-20, 2-10 SLC) return home to open up a four-game homestand against the visiting Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Islanders (10-21, 2-10 SLC).
Lumberjacks at a Glance:
The Lumberjacks put an end to their lengthy road swing as they played their longest road stretch of the season, playing nine straight away from Pilgrim's Park that saw them make two stops in Houston, a stop in both Stephenville and Abilene, and most recently traveling to Monroe to battle the ULM Warhawks. The Lumberjacks now return home looking to put an end to their skid and will be in the perfect place to do it as they head back to the friendly confines of Pilgrim's Park where they have posted a 6-6 record this season. The Lumberjack offense has especially enjoyed playing within the fences of Pilgrim's Park as they have scored double-digit runs in four home games this season and have knocked double-digit hits in five home games.
Wildcats at a Glance:
The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders close out their four-game road trip this weekend in Nacogdoches looking to bounce back from a 9-1 defeat to the University of Houston Cougars in their midweek matchup on Wednesday. Corpus Christi had no cake walk of a non-conference schedule as they played games against Kansas, UCLA, Michigan State, Washington State, Texas, as well as Texas A&M. The Islanders now head to the Pineywoods as they will look to improve on their 2-10 away record and 10-21 overall record on the season.
Scouting Report-Lumberjacks:
Josh Ibe continues to shine as one of the premier hitters in the Southland this season as his 10 long balls on the season rank him tied for second in the conference. Ibe sports an impressive .358/1.299/.840 slash line this season, with his .840 slugging percentage leading the conference and his 1.299 OPS ranking him second, while leading the 'Jacks with 28 driven in so far. Mark Henning will carry a four-game hitting streak into the weekend series against the Islanders, while Julian Swift has started to find his midseason stride as he has tallied multi-hit efforts in three of his last four games.
On the bump, Cody Templeton continues to lock down the ace spot in the Lumberjack rotation as his 2.81 era leads all SFA pitchers and ranks him eighth in the conference. Templeton has been a workhorse for the 'Jacks as he has thrown at least six innings in six of his seven starts this year, while leading the Southland with 48.0 innings pitched so far in 2025.
Scouting Report-Islanders:
Trey Cruz has been a do-it-all hitter for the Islanders this season as he leads the team in batting average (.300), OPS (.949), slugging percentage (.575), and home runs (five). Austin Russell has formed a nice compliment at the plate with Cruz as Russell has driven in a team-high 20, while Cade Sanchez has knocked seven doubles on the season. Zach Garcia has been solid on the mound for Corpus Christi this season as he has pitched to the tune of a 2.56 era over 45.2 innings this season.
Series:
Friday afternoon's series opener will see these two Southland foes meet for the 53rd all-time meeting with SFA leading the all-time series 28-24 to date. The Lumberjacks won the most recent meeting last season as they swept the Islanders in a two-game series at Pilgrim's Park with a 17-10 win, that was followed up by a 13-5 win for SFA over the Islanders. The Lumberjacks hold a 10-9 all-time home record against the Islanders.
