HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (9-16, 2-7 SLC) lost their midweek game to the Houston Cougars (14-10, 2-4 Big 12) this evening, 9-2.

The Cougars started this one fast, as they scored two runs in the top of the first to go up 2-0. In the second, Dante Turgeon led off the inning with a double, and Julian Swift moved him to third with a single, but the Lumberjacks were unable to score any runs.

In the third, the 'Jacks were able to get one back. After Ben Hoshizaki tripled with one out, Cooper Schneider would bring him home with an RBI groundout, cutting the Cougars lead to 2-1. In the bottom of the third, Houston scored one run, and in the fourth, the Cougars were able to bring in two more runs to extend their lead to 5-1.

Neither team could score in the fifth, but the Lumberjacks would tack on another run in the top of the sixth, courtesy of a Julian Swift RBI groundout to score Cooper Schneider to make the score 5-2. The Cougars tacked on another two runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up 7-2.

Houston would continue their trend of two-run innings in the eighth, scoring two to go up 9-2. The final score would hold as the Cougars would win the game, 9-2.

Blane Zeplin (1-3) took the loss, while Alex Solis (1-0) was credited with the win.
